Costco Offering Green Products - Who Knew?

I was in everyone's favorite uber-box store, Costco, for my annual pilgrimage to purchase 2 buckets of chlorine tabs for my pool.  Was with my two boys who insist that we troll the store for the free samples (those of you who do this are smiling right now).

Lo and behold, what do my eyes spot but Bamboo flooring for sale in the aisle! And then, around the corner, a solar kit for a pool!  Hmm.  What's going on here?  So I thought I'd share a few green-friendly items I spotted while stuffing my mouth full of brownie, ice cream, italian ice and other nifty samples...

I was happy to see energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly items making their way onto the shelves at such high profile stores as Costco.  Who knows what the next year wil bring?

Okay...Costco is MY store...and right down the street. That allergen thing...is it the same as air filter? If not, can you recommend something for me?  Since our dog is on steroids she's been shedding....not only is there a lot of dust but between her hair (not much but she is not one to shed to begin with) and my husbands new company shirts (it's red and for some reason sheds all over too) and we need to get something instead of inhaling all this stuff!  Help.  And by the way, costco always has good stuff...I always use those energy saving bulbs and also put them all over in my mom's house.

The Holmes item is definitely an air filter - but as always I'd shop that item to make sure it's a good price.  It's fairly large so shipping would be a hassle from Amazon.com or a similar stateside shipper.  Take a trip over and check it out!

I am happy to see that stores like Costco are getting greener.  I am also impressed with the allergen remover -- I rescued a cute cat a few years ago, but I am allergic to cats!  With summer and pollen -- I am sneezing all the time.  I hope this will help.

That is great!  They wouldn't bother putting items on the shelf if they didn't think it would sell.  People must be demanding more green products.  I wonder if they want the bamboo flooring because it is becoming trendy or because it is better than other options?  Then I wonder if the reason for the purchase really matters, as long as they are being more eco-friendly with their purchases.

Joan - thanks for the comment.  You are brave to keep a cat while having an allergy!

Jenny, I agree - this is my goal, to get teh consumer pull going such that retailers and builders feel the pressure to provide new options.  I bet the bamboo is because it's trendy more than sustainably-friendly.  Fine with me though - that's a trend I can live with!
